Sage shaker cabinets with butcher block and sink in a basement mudroom gym
About This Design
We merged two hardworking spaces by pairing sage green shaker cabinetry with dark exposed ceiling beams and slate tile, then layered in warm wood floating shelves, rattan baskets, and live plants to keep the industrial bones from feeling cold. The kitchenette sink makes post-workout cleanup effortless.
Design Tip
When combining a mudroom and a home gym, plan the sink on the mudroom wall closest to the gym entrance so equipment cleaning and post-workout handwashing share one plumbing run. Sage cabinetry holds color well in basements with limited natural light.

Spatial Approach
The mudroom kitchenette occupies one full wall with upper and lower shaker cabinets, a butcher block counter, and a utility sink. The gym zone connects through a wide structural opening, keeping both areas visually linked while separating the equipment from storage.
Best For
This layout suits homeowners finishing a basement who want a single room to handle arrivals, gear storage, and daily workouts. The sink handles equipment rinse-downs, plant watering, and post-workout cleanup all in one location.
