Gym alcove with air bike opening onto a Japandi cream sectional living room
About This Design
We carved a private gym alcove out of an open-plan living space by using a structural wall opening rather than a door, keeping the air flowing between both zones. The living side features a cream sectional, a low oak coffee table, and a slatted wood accent wall.
Design Tip
If you want a home gym without dedicating an entire room to it, a structural wall cutout is a smart solution. It keeps the equipment out of sight from the main seating area while letting light and air pass through.

Spatial Approach
The gym nook sits behind a load-bearing wall with a wide rectangular opening, visible from the hallway but screened from direct sofa sightlines. The living room faces the slatted wood wall with Roman shades at the window.
Best For
This layout works well for homeowners who want daily access to fitness equipment without committing a full room. The nook is compact enough for a single cardio machine and a mat.
