Golf Room Design Ideas
A golf room is part sports setup, part lounge. These projects show how simulator screen placement, projector distance, ceiling height, and seating arrangement create rooms that perform well for practice and entertain guests.
Browse simulator rooms built into basements, converted garages, and purpose-built additions. Each project includes equipment clearance dimensions, acoustics considerations, and a material specification list for flooring and wall treatments.

Golf Room Layout Tips
Plan Ceiling Height First
A golf simulator needs a minimum of 9.5 feet of ceiling clearance for a full swing, with 10 feet or more being ideal. Measure from the finished floor to the lowest obstruction (beams, ducts, lighting) before committing to a room.
Set the Hitting Area Distance
The golfer should stand 10-14 feet from the impact screen. This gives the projector enough throw distance for a clear image and leaves room for a natural backswing without hitting the rear wall.
Use Turf Flooring in the Swing Zone
Commercial-grade synthetic turf in the hitting area provides realistic footing and protects the subfloor. Transition to hardwood or luxury vinyl in the lounge zone for a finished look.
Add Lounge Seating Behind the Tee
A row of theater-style recliners or a built-in bench 3-4 feet behind the hitting area lets guests watch comfortably without crowding the golfer. Include a side table or ledge for drinks.
Planning Guide
Before You Start
Room Width for Full Swing
The room should be at least 12 feet wide so a right-handed golfer does not hit the side wall on a backswing. Left-handed golfers need the same clearance on the opposite side. We map swing arcs in our floor plans.
Sound Control
Impact screens generate noise. Acoustic panels on the side walls and ceiling reduce sound transfer to other rooms. We specify panel placement and material in the design package.
Projector vs. Direct Display
Short-throw projectors mount on the ceiling 3-5 feet from the screen. Direct display panels are quieter and brighter but cost more. We render both options so you can compare before purchasing.
Club and Equipment Storage
Built-in cubbies or a wall-mounted rack near the entry keep bags and clubs organized. A drawer unit holds gloves, tees, and accessories. We design storage into the room from the start.
