About This Design

Warm Transitional

Charcoal anchors a high-ceilinged kitchen without letting it feel cold. The island features walnut-backed open shelves that introduce warmth from the room centre outward. White plaster walls, pale floors, and floor-to-ceiling windows keep the dark palette from dominating.

Design Tip

Add open shelf bays on the island seating side rather than a full bank of drawers. Back the shelves in a contrasting material like walnut and the island reads as furniture rather than a cabinet block.

Spatial Approach

The kitchen wraps three walls in a U-configuration with the island centered facing the window wall. The pantry tower and glazed door on the right provide storage and a room transition. The high ceiling requires scaled pendants proportioned to match.

Best For

Large kitchens with high ceilings where dark cabinetry creates drama without closing in the space. Suits those who entertain regularly and want the island to serve as a social gathering point with open shelf display.
