About This Design

Desert Minimalist

We designed this cafe to frame the desert landscape as living artwork through oversized steel-frame windows that run the full height of the space. Stone arch niches along the back wall echo natural rock formations, while the terrazzo floor and wood slat ceiling keep materials grounded and tactile. The muted taupe and cream palette ensures nothing competes with the view.

Design Tip

Use stone arch niches to create built-in display moments that double as atmospheric lighting zones. Position banquette seating facing the strongest view line to maximize the window investment. Let the landscape do the decorating and keep interior surfaces neutral.

Spatial Approach

Floor-to-ceiling steel-frame windows dominate the left wall, making the desert landscape the primary decor element. High-top stools face the view for solo visitors, while stone-arch cactus niches along the back wall anchor the booth seating for groups. The terrazzo floor reflects daylight deep into the room, reducing the need for artificial lighting during peak hours.

Best For

Destination cafes in desert or arid settings where the surrounding landscape is a selling point. Works for roadside stops, resort cafes, or gallery spaces where architecture and scenery do the heavy lifting.
