About This Design
Classical Contemporary
We grounded this music room in classical architecture, then softened every surface toward warmer, contemporary warmth. Arched built-ins reference traditional library design, while the sage green finish and natural wood shelving keep the tone light. We balanced the weight of the black grand piano with linen-toned upholstery and a muted Persian rug.
Design Tip
When placing a grand piano near built-in shelving, load the shelves asymmetrically with books, botanicals, and ceramics rather than filling every bay evenly. Visual variation prevents the wall from competing with the instrument.

We positioned the grand piano on the diagonal from the arched bookshelf wall, opening sightlines from both the window seat and the entry. The window seat sits flush against the tall window bay, doubling as a listening perch and reading alcove.
