About This Design
Modern Transitional
This kitchen needed to feel connected to the living space beyond. We used three globe pendants as a visual marker for the island while keeping cabinetry in a warm natural wood. The cane-back bar stools add texture and a touch of coastal style without going full beach house. The open shelving above the range creates display opportunities while keeping everyday items within reach, blending function with visual interest.
Design Tip
Use pendant lighting to define the kitchen island in open concept spaces. Three pendants in a row create a visual boundary without walls. Mix open and closed storage - display your beautiful pieces and hide the everyday clutter.

Spatial Approach
The island is positioned directly in front of a large picture window so the cook faces natural light and an outdoor view, with three cane-back counter stools turning the island into a casual dining bar. Light oak cabinetry and a calacatta marble backsplash run along the left wall in an L-shape, keeping the work triangle tight, while a glass door to the right opens to a terrace and pulls the outdoors into the kitchen.

Families or frequent entertainers who want the kitchen to feel connected to the outdoors and to guests sitting at the island. The open sightline through the window makes this layout ideal for properties with garden or landscape views worth framing.
