About This Design
Contemporary Contrast
We designed this kitchen around the dramatic black fluted island. The texture of the vertical grooves catches light and adds dimension to what could be a flat black box. White cabinetry and marble counters keep the space bright while the black island grounds the design and provides visual weight. Matte black hardware and fixtures create sharp definition against white cabinetry, while the geometric backsplash tile adds subtle pattern without overwhelming the clean lines.
Design Tip
Use fluted or textured panels on dark cabinetry to add visual interest. Flat black can feel heavy, but texture creates movement and catches light. Matte black fixtures read as modern but also hide fingerprints and water spots better than chrome.
