Design Tips

Kitchen Design Tips

01

Respect the Work Triangle

The path between sink, stove, and refrigerator should form a triangle with sides of 4-9 feet each. Our floor plans optimize this relationship so cooking feels efficient, not like a cardio workout.

02

Plan Counter Space Per Zone

You need landing space next to the stove, beside the sink, and near the fridge. Each zone needs 15-24 inches minimum. We map these zones in every kitchen layout to prevent dead spots.

03

Choose Cabinets Before Appliances

Cabinet dimensions dictate which appliances fit. A 30-inch range and a 36-inch range require completely different layouts. Lock in your cabinet configuration first, then select appliances that match.

04

Light the Counter, Not the Ceiling

Under-cabinet task lighting makes food prep safer and more practical than overhead fixtures alone. We specify fixture types, color temperature (3000K for kitchens), and placement in every kitchen package.

Planning Guide

Kitchen Planning Factors

Renovation vs. Refresh Scope

Changing the layout means plumbing and electrical work. A refresh keeps the footprint and updates surfaces, hardware, and lighting. We design for both scopes at different price points.

Your Cooking Habits Matter

A household that meal-preps weekly needs different counter space and storage than one that mostly reheats. Tell us how you cook and we design the kitchen around your real routine.

Island vs. Peninsula Decision

Islands need 42-48 inches of clearance on all sides. If your kitchen is under 12 feet wide, a peninsula gives you the same counter space without blocking the traffic flow.

Upper Cabinets vs. Open Shelves

Open shelving costs less and shows well in photos but requires constant organizing. Uppers hide clutter. Most of our kitchen projects use a mix of both based on what the client actually stores.
