About This Design
French Transitional
We lined both walls with beige raised-panel wainscoting that reaches chair-rail height, then anchored the right wall with a custom arched oak console. We flanked the painting with paired brass sconces and placed an olive tree in a stone pot to soften the architectural precision.
Design Tip
Wainscoting at chair-rail height (32-36 inches) visually lowers tall walls and adds architectural weight without consuming floor space. Pair with a console that mirrors the panel geometry, here arches echoing the molding profiles.

We ran the wainscoting continuously on both walls to unify the corridor. The arched console sits flush against the right wall, leaving clear passage on the left where the olive tree occupies vertical space without blocking movement.

Formal entry corridor connecting living spaces. The console provides a landing surface for keys and mail, while the runner rug defines the path and absorbs foot traffic sound between rooms.
