Twin upholstered beds with shiplap wall, rattan nightstand, and bistro sitting nook

About This Design

Warm Transitional

We designed this room to function as both a guest suite and a shared retreat. Two upholstered beds anchor the shiplap wall while a bistro sitting area by the garden-facing windows gives guests a place to unwind without leaving the room. Sconces at bedside eliminate nightstand clutter, and the vintage rug unifies the two zones beneath one continuous floor surface.

Design Tip

When designing a room with two beds, treat them as one unit by positioning them on the same wall and using the same headboard style, bedding color, and sconce height. Matching in pairs creates order. Then differentiate through pillow textures or throw colors so each bed feels personal without breaking the visual symmetry.

Spatial Approach

The two beds sit parallel against the shiplap wall with a shared oak nightstand between them. The sitting area occupies the window corner opposite the door, drawing guests toward the light. This arrangement gives each zone a clear territorial boundary while the open floor plan between them keeps the room from feeling divided.

Best For

Guest bedrooms or shared rooms that need to accommodate two sleepers while also providing a lounge area for extended stays. Works well in vacation homes, Airbnb rentals, or primary residences with frequent long-term guests.
