About This Design

This modern farmhouse was designed as a complete home where every room shares the same material DNA while maintaining its own identity. The vaulted wood plank ceiling and exposed beams establish the farmhouse structural language from the moment you enter the open-plan living area.

Natural stone on the fireplace wall anchors the living zone, while calacatta marble carries through the kitchen, bathrooms, and utility spaces as the primary surface material. Wrought iron ring chandeliers and lantern pendants provide consistent lighting character across all rooms.

The private rooms branch off a central hallway with the master suite on one end and guest spaces on the other. Dark charcoal accent walls in the powder room, master bath WC, and guest bedroom create moments of contrast against the otherwise neutral ivory and cream palette.

Every utility space received the same design attention as the main rooms. The walk-in pantry, butler pantry, laundry room, and mudroom all feature the same oak and marble material thread, making even the working spaces feel intentional and cohesive.

What Makes This Modern Farmhouse Design Work

Structural Warmth

Vaulted wood plank ceilings with exposed beams provide farmhouse character through architecture rather than decoration. The wood runs continuously across the open-plan space to unify kitchen, dining, and living areas.

Material Hierarchy

Each room has one hero material: stone in the living room, marble in the kitchen and baths, dark paint in the powder room. Oak and walnut cabinetry run through all spaces as the connecting thread.

Iron and Brass Balance

Wrought iron chandeliers and lantern pendants carry the farmhouse-industrial accent, while gold and brass hardware on cabinets and plumbing fixtures add warmth. The two metal tones coexist without competing.

Indoor-Outdoor Connection

Large sliding glass doors and floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room, master bedroom, and guest bedroom frame the pastoral green landscape as part of the interior composition.

Spatial Approach

The stone fireplace wall anchors one end of the great room while the kitchen island and bar seating anchor the other, creating a natural flow from cooking to gathering. The curved sectional follows the sightline between the fireplace and the window wall, ensuring every seat has a view of either the fire or the landscape outside.

Best For

Designed for a family that lives in one large connected room, where cooking dinner, watching TV, and conversation all happen simultaneously. This suits rural or suburban homeowners who want modern farmhouse warmth with enough scale to host extended family gatherings.

Designer Insights

Key Design Decisions

Stone Fireplace as Living Room Anchor

The full-height natural stone wall with floating walnut shelves and firewood storage creates a focal point that grounds the open-plan space. It defines the seating zone without walls or partitions.

Calacatta Marble Everywhere

Using the same calacatta marble for kitchen island, backsplash, bathroom vanities, and shower walls creates visual continuity across rooms that otherwise have different functions and moods.

Checkerboard Bathroom Floors

Black and white marble checkerboard tile in the master bathroom adds graphic contrast to the warm wood vanity and gold fixtures, preventing the bathroom from reading as overly country.

Dark Accent Rooms

The powder room, master bath WC, and guest bedroom use deep charcoal paint to create intimate contrast spaces within an otherwise light and airy home. These rooms feel like intentional pauses.

Glass-Front Closet Cabinets

Oak wardrobe cabinets with glass doors and internal LED lighting make the walk-in closet functional while maintaining the finished aesthetic standard of the public rooms.
